BOSTON – CBS Boston reports that a woman was arrested on Christmas eve for stealing toys that were donated to give to poor children.
49 year old Janice Tully drove two less privileged neighbors to a community center in Hyannis, Massachusetts on Christmas day. At the center, the two families would receive toys for five children. The toys, valued at about $US500, were donated by kind-hearted neighbors.
However, Tully pulled a fast one and quickly put the toys in her vehicle and drove away, leaving her two neighbors stranded, forcing them to take a taxi home.
The neighbors confronted Tully when they got home. But Tully told them the toys were gone. The neighbors called police who arrested Tully after finding a few of the toys still in the trunk of her car. Tully refuses to cooperate with police however and refuses to say where the rest of the toys are.
A employee of the Toys For Tots Foundation, which sponsored the toy drive at the community center, was able to give new toys to the two families in time for Christmas eve.
Tully, who is free on bail, spent Christmas day in jail. She’ll be facing a judge after the holidays.
