CAIRO – At least 300 members of the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood have been arrested ever since the government announced on Wednesday that the organization is a ‘terrorist group’.
According to the country’s Minister of Internal Affairs, on Friday alone 256 people were arrested, all believed to be members of the Brotherhood, because they responded to a request by the Brotherhood to protest against the Egyptian government after completing Friday’s prayer.
Protests are ongoing across the whole of Egypt. Demonstrators throw rocks and police fight back with teargas, water canons and bullets.
The confrontation between the protesters and police has led to several individuals being killed.
Ever since the dethroning of Egyptian Islamic President Mohamed Morsi, a known member of the Muslim Brotherhood, the organization has asked its members to protest, and use violence if need be, to resist the military backed government.
